Light the Way Scholarship
The Baylor Doctor of Physical Therapy Light the Way Scholarship, established by an anonymous donation and supported by continued contributions from faculty, alumni, and friends of the Baylor University Department of Physical Therapy in Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences, is awarded annually.
Scholarship Amount:
The award is a minimum of $1,000 to multiple students in each cohort.
Selection Criteria:
All students enrolled in the Baylor Doctor of Physical Therapy program are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The following four factors, listed here in no particular order, will be considered in selecting the recipients:
- Alignment of the applicant with the core values of the Baylor University Department of Physical Therapy: Faith, Connection, Growth, Inclusion, Adaptability, and Courage. More information on these values and their connection with the Department’s Mission and Vision can be obtained here. Identification as a Christian is not required to qualify for this scholarship, but the applicant is expected to speak to the fostering of Christian values such as love, kindness, humility, honesty, faithfulness, generosity, and goodness.
- Academic status following the first trimester of the program. The student’s grade point average after receiving grades for all courses in the first trimester of the curriculum must be 3.0 or higher.
- Financial need. This will be determined by information submitted by the student to Baylor Student Financial Services, including the use of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.
- Underrepresented Minority (URM) status. In keeping with the American Physical Therapy Association definition of underrepresented, this will include individuals “of racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented in physical therapy education relative to their numbers in the general population, as well as individuals from geographically underrepresented areas, from lower economic strata, and from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds, and with disabilities“ (APTA, n.d.). Being a member of one of these URM groups is considered but not required to qualify for this scholarship.
