Clinical Expectations
The resident will work as a clinician at Baylor Scott & White Health, receiving clinical mentorship from physical therapists specialized in orthopaedic practice. The residency will provide access to a diverse patient population across multiple practice settings. The resident will participate in didactic learning from Baylor University. The resident will also have unique opportunities to participate in teaching and research with the Baylor DPT faculty.
The resident will spend approximately 36 hours per week in patient care. Four of these hours will be allotted for 1:1 clinical mentoring with an orthopaedic specialist. This structured clinical mentoring gives the resident an opportunity for accelerated growth as an orthopaedic clinician.
Didactic Expectations
The resident will be allotted approximately 4-6 hours per week dedicated to didactic content. This content will emphasize specialty practice in orthopaedics. It will also serve to prepare the resident to sit for the OCS exam. The resident will participate in teaching and lab assisting at Baylor’s DPT musculoskeletal lab intensives. The resident will also participate in research with Baylor’s DPT faculty. The research project will be tailored to best fit the needs and interests of the resident.
Locations
The clinical experiences will span 3 different clinic locations: Baylor Scott & White MacArthur Outpatient Rehabilitation Clinic, Baylor Scott & White Southwest Sports and Orthopaedics Clinic, and the Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Outpatient Rehabilitation Center. This ensures that the resident has adequate exposure to a variety of patients in various stages of rehabilitation of orthopaedic conditions.
Workweek
A typical workweek includes 32 hours of independent orthopaedic practice, 4 hours of 1-1 clinical mentoring, and 4-6 hours of didactic instruction. The didactic portion of the residency will occur virtually and at the Baylor DPT Campus in Waco. Research and teaching portions will be during Baylor's DPT musculoskeletal lab intensives, totaling about 4 weeks throughout the course of the program.
