“Make sure that you work on maintaining a good work-life balance, especially if you work in an environment where your caseload gets high.” —Emily Trevino, DPT ’22

What is your current role?

I am an outpatient physical therapist working at Texas Physical Therapy Specialists in New Braunfels, Texas, where I see patients across the lifespan. I am a board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist and a certified lymphedema therapist.

What are you currently doing to further your expertise as a physical therapist?

Currently, I am building my lymphedema caseload in order to further help those with persistent and/or chronic swelling. In addition, I am enrolled in a lifestyle medicine certification course.

What advice would you give to someone interested in your type of work?

Make sure that you work on maintaining a good work-life balance, especially if you work in an environment where your caseload gets high. This also includes making time to exercise and keep up with personal fitness goals!

Do you have any future aspirations you would like to share?

A goal that I have includes hosting more doctoral candidates from physical therapy schools to further my clinical instructor experience. Another goal of mine includes being able to further my mentoring experience by being an available mentor for future orthopedic residents.
